Val Akva
Val Akva run a commercial fish farm, producing about 700 mt of salmon each year. We are also joint own
er
in a musselfarm, Follaskjell, harvesting about 100 mt of mussels in
2004. Val Akva is a division under Val Videregående Skole.
Val Videregående Skole is a school that gives courses in Aquaculture
and Agriculture on the Upper Secondary level. The 90-100 students are
mainly recruited from the mid part of Norway. The main focus of the
school is teaching, Research and Development, and in addition, both the
full-scale fish farm and the farm owned by the school is run on a
commercial basis. Through this we are able to give our students a
education with strong focus on praxis in a strong link to the theory.
Val co-operate widely with the aquaculture and agriculture industries, both in our own region and more nationwide companies. The school is owned by a Christian organization, Nork Luthersk Misjonssamband.
This EU funded Collective Research project with 23 partners from Norway, Ireland, UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Portugal, will provide the European marine aquaculture industry with low cost practical solutions to control biofouling.
