Organic Biocides

Organic biocides are often added to antifouling paints to improve the performance.

Key Factors Negative

- Less universally effective than other biocides as they may deter only specific types of fouling organism. As a result of these 'species-specific' characteristics, such biocides will almost always be used with other biocides, including copper. (activities/recreation/r03_03.htm)
- Organic biocides are also very expensive to develop and register.
